Here’s the latest single from Californian singer-songwriter Francesca Brown. In ‘When a Cowboy Cries’, the combination of guitars, pedal steel and fiddle creates a full, timeless country sound over a gently swaying rhythm. In particular, George Madrid’s pedal steel is like another sweetly tuneful voice singing a lament while Rob Hume’s bass is warm and mellow. It’s easy to be absorbed by Brown’s ranging vocal, perfect for classic country, lilting and flowing through the currents of a gorgeous melody.
Brown says of the song: “When I wrote this song, I wanted to capture the true essence of the California West and included terms and imagery in the lyrics and the video that some of us native Socal kids might know, but the message is universal. ‘When a Cowboy Cries’ is definitely inspired by my father and all that he has represented to me throughout my life. It is a reminder of the old west; seeing him as the strongest man in the world, yet wise and soft hearted at the same time.”
Produced by Kenneth James Gibson and recorded in the mountains of Idyllwild, this is the third single from Brown’s upcoming album.
