Check out the third single from Brooklyn-based trio Gooseberry.  ‘Cherry Blossoms’ is a gorgeously summery song that could be the soundtrack for your long days and late evenings.  The band is comprised of Asa Daniels (guitar, vocals), Evin Rossington (drums) and Will Hammond (bass).  Together, they create well-crafted songs and a lively, melodic sound reminiscent of The Beatles.  ‘Cherry Blossoms’ is a great example of their diverse writing and influences – it’s immediate, engaging and just so likeable.  Lyrically, this is a heartwarming love song through and through, focusing on the inevitable passing of time, with words that are direct and universal: “I saw you underneath the cherry blossoms // I forgot to call your name // The photographs in the frames // They have you looking away // I wish I could remember what I’ve forgotten // And I’ve forgotten so many things // Keys and dates and wedding rings // But I could never forget your face.”

The band’s frontman, Asa Daniels, says of the inspiration behind the song: “I spent months during the pandemic scanning and cataloguing photos of my family dating back to the 1800s. There’s something terrifying about how much of life slips through the cracks once lived, but also something beautiful about the staying power of the few moments that remain.” Digging deeper, Daniels explains, “My grandmother’s dementia has made that more tangible for me. So this song is essentially saying, ‘I’m gonna get it wrong a whole lot, and I won’t remember much of it in the end, but I’ll never forget the face of the ones I love.'”

This single is taken from Gooseberry’s debut full-length album, ‘All My Friends Are Cattle’, which is due for release on 6th September 2024.  Following well-received EPs, this promises to be their most ambitious project, blending a range of influences and styles from singer-songwriter and blues to indie-rock, with even a bit of punk and prog thrown in.  It’s an eclectic mix that’s well-worth checking out.  Enjoy.
