Winner of imaginative album title competition strikes again.

Loudon Wainwright III will release his fourth live album simply titled “Live in London” on the 31st of January to coincide with the beginning of his guest appearances in the Transatlantic Sessions (see our news story here). Recorded during a short residency at Nell’s Jazz and Blues in London the album features some of his current favourites, some new material of his own and a few cover versions of songs by others. The twenty-one tracks that made it onto this double album make it a worthy addition to the three previously released live albums that dot the discography of his fifty-plus-year recording career.

“Lifetime Achievement” is Wainwright’s most recent studio album of original songs and upon its release in 2022 he put it in context by saying, “When I made my first record for Atlantic in 1969, I wanted to make not only a recording, but a document that captures a moment. Now, fifty years later, I guess I still want to make a testament of songs, and I like to think they might last a while.”

In 2023 Wainwright and Dick Connette collaborated on “Monsters”, a 10 minute film about Wainwright’s boyhood obsession with horror films of the 1930s and 1960s. Prior to that, he rode out the pandemic by producing a number of virtual shows, including “The Special Relationship” (presented by the Royal Albert Hall) and “The Great Unknown”, a musical tribute to his friend, the late George Gerdes. Also featured in that show were Richard Thompson, Suzanne Vega, Steve Forbert, and the members of Spinal Tap.

Riding the one eyed horse into dead town the scales fell from his eyes. Music was the only true god at once profane and divine The dust blew through his mind as he considered the offering... And then he scored it out of ten and waited for the world to wake up
