Gunner & Smith “Find Your Own Way” – ultimately people are strange

You might, not unreasonably, assume that Gunner & Smith is a duo – maybe someone called Gunner and, who knows?, someone called Smith.  And you’d be wrong,to some extent.  Gunner & Smith is the recording name of Canadian Geoff Smith who found himself in Nashville where he recorded his upcoming new release ‘Hear You In My Head, due out September 16th.  This, his third album, was produced by Andrija Tokic, known for his work with the likes of Alabama Shakes and Langhorne Slim.

Of this new song Gunner & Smith has said: “This is about growing up and understanding the world around me more fully and coming to terms with my relationship with my mother.  About how your understanding of people and who they are fills out over time but also is about the concern for my own legacy and impact.” It’s an intimate recording both in lyrics and tone, with Smith’s gruff gravely vocal drawing the listener into his confidences.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
