Video Premiere: Craig Gould & the Noble Thieves “Red River”

Check out the latest single from folk and americana songwriter Craig Gould and his band The Noble Thieves. ‘Red River’ is an aching ballad about the strength that love gives us and the heartbreak of war. Throughout the song, a gently grooving rhythm, delivered by Lee Cogswell’s bass and Jonny Peters’ drums, is the foundation for low, halting notes on the guitar, full of tension and moody intensity. Gould’s voice combines well with Rosemary Patrick’s, especially towards the end when the vocal tune rises and their tones become more plaintive.  The artfully shot video was recorded live at Beckview Studios, and we can be absorbed by the chemistry of the whole band performing alongside Gould.

Gould’s well-received debut album, “Songs from the Campfire”, was a top 20 entry on the Official UK Folk & Americana Albums Chart in 2023. On 13th August 2025, Gould will release a new live EP, “Live at Beckview Studios”, a collaboration with Beckview Studios in Scarborough that will appear in both audio and visual formats. New material and favourites from the debut album are included on the EP, which combines the immediacy, energy and emotional resonance of a live show with the precision of a studio recording. ‘Red River’ is one of Gould’s new songs and will also be on “Songs of Love and War”, a forthcoming full-length album due out next year.

Gould shares: “It’s been an incredible journey since Campfire came out, and The Noble Thieves have been a huge part of that. We put a lot of care into shaping our live sound, so having the chance to capture that energy so authentically was amazing. Kristina and Chris at Beckview are true champions of grassroots music, and working with them was an honour. The studio is outstanding, and the analogue setup suited our sound perfectly. We’re so excited to share this EP with the world and give a glimpse of what’s to come as we move toward album two.”

You can expect fine songcraft, thoughtful storytelling and emotive performances from Gould and Thee Noble Thieves on the new material. This video and the new EP deliver the spirit of a live show to enhance the songwriting even more. Check it out.
