We have a fine treat for you, dear readers, on this Monday morning – we’re sure you know that “Tambourine” is getting a reissue, but what you may not be aware of is that there are other songs from the same era that will also be getting to see the light of day. That’s right, new music from Tift Merritt that will appear as part of Merritt’s forthcoming collection “Time and Patience”, which is out on August 29th via One Riot Records. It’s a fully worked-up studio recording, one of four such on “Time and Patience“, which otherwise features home demos and unreleased songs from the early 2000s, recorded in Merritt’s North Carolina kitchen with just a notebook, her voice, and her dog, Lucy.

These songs come from a time when Tift Merritt was just starting to make her mark, as she explains: “I was so frustrated with the music business in those days, trying to be true to myself and my band and the people who believed in my career. I felt pretty lost. I’m not sure I really had an advocate who saw who I was until I met George [Drakoulias] to make “Tambourine”.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
