Here’s the latest single from UK singer-songwriter Ian Roland. In ‘Some Way of Life’, Roland delivers heartfelt lyrics in his distinctively graceful, pure-sounding voice. The song opens with just Roland’s bright, finger-picked guitar before his tuneful vocal begins, his words aching with longing and regret: “Must be some way of living, where I don’t hurt you anymore. // Must be some way of living, where you don’t kill me every day. // Some way of living, stop digging holes in the ground. // Must be some way of living, uncharted, unplanned.”
Dave Coomber supplies melodic bass, over which Mishkin Fitzgerald’s piano adds depth, and James Chapman introduces a gentle rhythm on the drums. ‘Some Way of Life’ moves through different moments, times when there are pauses in the instrumental textures, focusing attention back to Roland, his guitar and his compelling message. Roland recorded eight new songs in February, and this is the second single release from this new material. He will be releasing a new single every six to eight weeks – look out for a future album or EP release collecting these together. Roland delivers a blend of the contemporary and the vintage, a coming together of British folk and americana influences. This is classic, timeless songwriting from an artist whose songs have a richness and warmth running through their catchy melodic flow. Enjoy.
