Neil Young: “Big Crime” – no more, no more

Neil Young has a, well, not exactly a new song but in an Eco-spirit more of a recycled song with the newly available ‘Big Crime.’   Recorded at the sound check for a recent appearance in Chicago, with his Chrome Hearts band, ‘Big Crime‘ takes ‘Lookin’ for a Leader‘ from the “Living With War” album, and updates the put down of Bush to be an even more direct put down of the current President.   Neil is quite clear about what he thinks about the current state of politics in his adopted country: “Don’t need no fascist rules  / Don’t want no fascist schools / Don’t want soldiers on our streets.”  And he’s also no fan of an administration that’s blatantly lining its pockets and enacting cronyism at an unimaginable level: “No more money to the fascists / the billionaire fascists.”

No verses yet about sacking anyone who dares to rely on old-fashioned things like facts, or about the use of emergency powers in the face of no-emergency.  perhaps too nuanced – but maybe later in the tour.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?

In a similar vein, Tom Paxton has a track ‘No Kings Here’ available on Bandcamp this Friday. Can’t imagine what it’s about, but the cover shot is a picture of The White House.
