Kate Gregory and Brendan Hearn are gearing up to release their debut album, “One Year Since“, which was recorded last year in what we now have to refer to as “wartorn Portland”, and will be released on November 14th on Adhyâropa Records, and today’s song is taken from the new album. It’s been a pretty quick path to the new release, as the duo first appeared together at the Boston Celtic Music Festival in 2023.
‘Little Bird‘ is a song by Emmylou Harris and the McGarrigle sisters, that Kate and Brendan arranged with an old-time fiddle and cello twist. The track features Kate on fiddle and vocals, which blend beautifully with Brendan’s cello and vocal harmonies. It showcases the interplay of their voices and instruments, which are supported by the formidable bass playing of Nate Sabat and foot percussion by acclaimed dancer Nic Gareiss. Their intriguing take on the classic folk ballad contrasts the heartfelt longing of the lyrics with upbeat, and in this case, quite literally toe-tapping rhythm.
