Something for the weekend: John Mayer “Roll it on Home”

Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader – if you’re a supporter your playlist will be with you at 5pm. To round things off this week I thought I’d share a track from John Mayer’s 2017 album “The Search for Everything” which was basically a loose break-up concept album. Pitchfork described the record as “pleasantly bland” which is a badge of honour I guess. Mayer told Rolling Stone at the time that he wanted the song ‘Roll It On Home’ to feel like a pick-up band was playing it – “It’s supposed to be like a worn-in pair of jeans,” he commented. “It reminds me of JJ Cale or Eric Clapton, and those unsung great records like Clapton’s ‘Promises,’ which sounds like it’s performed in a reclining chair, with a cigarette burning in the headstock of the guitar.” It’s just a fantastic track anyway, probably the most country-vibish he’s recorded and up there with the best he’s done.

Take care everyone, don’t forget Palestine and probably worth us saying this week that there are many, many amazing Jewish activists in this country who in partnership with people from all faiths and none keep on fighting the fascists. See you next week.
