Here’s the video premiere of the latest single from Dave Burn. ‘Down From the Mountain’ has a timeless, traditional sound, performed beautifully by Burn, whose warm, rhythmic strum is the foundation for his melodic vocal performance and thoughtful lyrics. ‘Down From The Mountain’ tackles challenging themes, including pushing back against opinionated, alpha male influencers who are constantly pushing you to take a side; instead, the song urges such people to retreat from their extreme views and try living in the ‘middle lane’. Burn told AUK about the single: “It’s basically saying, can’t you just take a day off? I don’t want to fight you, I don’t want confrontation, so can you please just chill out, because at some point you’re going to wish you could step off whatever mountaintop you’re on and realise your old life was more real.” Filmed and directed by Simon Waldock from Clipstone Productions, the video follows Burn as he begins playing in a pub before walking out into the city streets, providing a real, authentic backdrop for his hard-hitting words of intransience and conflict: “Nobody dared to look at you wrong // You relished the fear in their eyes…Right before I woke up from the dream, I found you crying // Longing for a moment from the life you left behind.”
The single is taken from the album “Medium Dave + Friends”, due out on 14th November on Street Mission Records. Like ‘Down From the Mountain’, the album explores the idea that we soften our polarising views and extreme behaviours as we get older. Indeed, occupying the middle ground can be a refreshing, even radical, way to be. Burn delivers these songs with sensitivity, acceptance and wisdom and will leave you in a contemplative frame of mind. Check this out.
