Video: Charm of Finches “Meteor”

Here is the mesmerising new song from Australian folk-pop duo Charm of Finches. Sisters Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes once again deliver lush harmonies and melodic beauty over delicate instrumentation in the haunting ‘Meteor’. The song grows subtly, layers of sound gently adding depths to immerse yourself in. Exquisitely crafted and arranged, ‘Meteor’ is beautifully dark and melancholic.

The accompanying video is equally absorbing. Along with Charm of Finches, who directed and produced the film, director of photography, Manav Lakhiani, has created a brilliantly cinematic world for the band to inhabit. Artistically shot, it’s full of ethereal magic and graceful movement, an immersive visual that perfectly complements the elegant feel of the music. The duo say of the video: “We love to create music videos that are sort of like mini short films. We drew aesthetic inspiration from Yellow Jackets with a sprinkle of Narnia. We got out the glue guns and handcrafted elven twig crowns and feathered costume pieces, and even painted an animal skull mask. We collaborated with our incredible friends who helped us design and put together the costumes, source props, as well as dance and act in it! We wanted to capture a magical, powerful, natural world and incorporate the beauty of the Australian landscape.”

Charm of Finches’ most recent album was 2024’s “Marlinchen In The Snow”. Recorded in rural Nova Scotia, the album was inspired by the timeless beauty of the frozen landscape, the Grimm Fairy Tales the sisters enjoyed as children and the transient nature of their musical lives. While preparing for their next record, the sisters will return to the UK in February 2026: “On our last UK tour, we connected with so many people, and we can’t wait to visit again – singing in old churches, stuffing ourselves with English breakfast and patting highland cows. Then we’ll be writing songs by the windswept coasts and rugged mountains of Scotland, creating our fifth record.” While you wait for the next album, immerse yourself in the ethereal magic of ‘Meteor’.
