Rose Hotel “My Satellite” – gone up to the sky

In normal times what would we all be talking about, other than the fact that after a hiatus of more than 50 years the old gang has got back together, pulled in an extra Canadian and set off for the moon once more.  Yes, humans circling the planet’s most significant satellite,  with the future of landings and permanent moonbases a tantalising possibility.  Yeah, it’s back to the Seventies, only maybe this time it’ll actually happen.  But these are not normal times and so that story has become almost an afterthought in the news cycle.

Which brings us to Rose Hotel (aka singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jordan Reynolds) whi has released a new single which obliquely falls in with those musings without actually singing about them.  She explains that the song is “a love song – one that honors the ability of someone you love to be able to see in you a way that sometimes you cannot see yourself. When they are a guiding light, a force of positive change, and something that is always with you. Like the moon is a satellite of the earth, a loved one can follow and reflect your light (even when it’s complicated).”

And who is Rose Hotel?  Well, Jordan Reynolds began playing keys with Kentucky psych-rockers Buffalo Rodeo when she was 19 and has built a career as a side musician for acts like Faye Webster, Susto, Neighbor Lady, and She Returns From War since self-releasing Rose Hotel’s 2019 debut, I Will Only Come When It’s a Yes.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
