Steve Robinson & Ed Woltil “I Won’t Let Go” – a jingle-jangle morning

And in case you’re wondering, that’s Steve on the right and Ed on the left and they bring us the second single from their new album Temporary Sun, which was released last week.  I Won’t Let Go sees the duo crafting a classic power-pop bout of optimism – looking to a future that has every chance of only getting better with strong bonds ever tightening, but in a good way: “you throw me a life line, I won’t let go / … / you know we’re in this thing together, not alone.”  It’s about as summery and sunshiny as you can imagine, and benefits from the assistance of guitar virtuoso Dave Gregory (XTC) and drummer extraordinaire Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention, and just about anyone else you care to name).

But what of Steve Robinson & Ed Woltil ?  Well, Tampa based Ed Woltil also plays in The Ditchflowers, and both he and Steve Robinson were in folk-rockers The Headlights who had an EP produced by Roger McGuinn who then asked them to be his tour band around the time of Back From Rio – in fact you can see The Headlights supporting him in the video link in the comments right here.  Amazingly, Steve Robinson told Americana-UK : “That Tonight Show appearance was actually our first gig with him!

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
