A classic song, beautifully performed. Recorded during the lockdown and featuring Sadie Jemmett’s new band, this is a stripped-back version of the title track from the legendary Townes Van Zandt’s 1987 album ‘At My Window’. Jemmett says of the track: “It is one of my favourite Townes Van Zandt songs and I feel that its melancholy lyrics capture the collective mood right now, one of longing and isolation.”
The song was originally recorded by Jemmett for her brother, Dan Jemmett, a theatre director who wanted the song for his play, Clytimnestra Apocalypse, which toured Europe in 2017. This brand new recording is a perfect choice for Jemmett’s third single release of 2020, following the politically-charged ‘The Killing of George Floyd’ in June and ‘Rescue Street’, taken from the latest album, ‘Phoenix’. This year has seen Jemmett cancel a tour across the UK and Europe. Instead, she turned her focus to livestream gigs online and, ultimately, a self-released set of covers, ‘Lock Down Live’, which has been put out on cassette as well as a digital download. This is a song to lose yourself in. Enjoy.
