Steve Ashley “Into The Sun” – Listen

Whilst no-one is likely to make a claim that 2020 has been a great year, Steve Ashley did get at least one pleasant boost.   The Australian singer-songwriter saw his latest album ‘In the Sun‘ take the Roots Album of the Year award from the Adelaide Roots & Blues Association.

Steve Ashley was actually born in Livepool, but emigrated to Australia at the age of nine, his parents being “ten pound poms“.  When he was ten they got him a clarinet but he was allergic to the reed so, reluctantly, they bought him a guitar nervous, as he says, that he might take up rock-and-roll.  Yeah.

Today’s song comes from ‘In the Sun‘ and draws on the Lasseter’s legendary “Reef of Gold” and the unfortunate ends that those who went in search of it in his expedition came to.  It’s a metaphor for greed.
