A cleverly shot video reinforces this song’s message about growing beyond a small town and finally leaving home for good. There’s a warm, gentle opening, in which the dreamy melody of Cooper Trail’s vocal is a perfect match for his nostalgic lyrics: “But this is way back…and our first hello was just the other day.” Then, the song builds and changes, becoming an upbeat foot-tapper. It’s hugely absorbing. Desolation horse is the solo project of Cooper Trail, who is better known as a session and touring drummer for various bands in the American Northwest.
The self-titled debut album from Desolation Horse is due out on 11th December. Trail describes what we can expect from the new record: “Social anxiety, social awkwardness, growing out of my hometown…those are all themes on this album. I process things I’m going through with the songs I write.” On the strength of the single release, the album promises to be well-worth a listen, as the growing fanbase in the Pacific Northwest have already discovered. It’s open, honest and relatable. Enjoy.
Love it!
