Video Premiere: Radiator King “Gospel”

We are delighted to premiere ‘Gospel’, the latest video release from Radiator King.  Featuring a strong acoustic strum, rolling piano and the characterful, melodic vocal of Adam Silvestri, this is a song that brings to mind Brian Fallon and The Gaslight Anthem.  This stripped-back version is even more emotive thanks to the intimate performances.  ‘Gospel’ tackles the idea of ownership within a relationship.

The song is taken from Radiator King’s third full-length album, ‘Unborn Ghosts’, for which Silvestri approached song-writing in a new way.  Instead of writing chords at home on the guitar and adding lyrics later, he spent hours at the library, reading, researching and free-writing.  He explains: “As a songwriter, you’re an investigator, and you’re trying to figure out any sort of clue that’s gonna lead you in some new direction. So I would read all these books and just free write—turn off my intellect, get logic out of the way, let my subconscious flow and just see where it went. And then the next day, I’d revisit what I’d written and start to collect lines that stood out. Eventually, I’d notice little threads developing, parts that fit together, and maybe by the end of the week I’d have a new song. I like to think the song is already out there somewhere, you just have to uncover it like an archaeologist. You’re digging and, all of a sudden, there it is. You have to have faith in that process. If you don’t, you’ll never have the patience to stumble on what you’re trying to say.”  His new process has led to Silvestri’s most effective writing yet, blending genres, creating catchy hooks and writing songs with meaning and purpose.

Through the eyes of a host of characters, the album uses narratives as metaphors to explore the need to face up to your past and rid yourself of its ghosts.  Silvestri’s band produce well-crafted songs and demonstrate  quality musicianship.  Check it out.
