It’s a few years now since this Deputy Editor and the Editor caught Steve Grozier’s set in the tiny upstairs bar at Moth Club during AmericanaFest 2018. Just a man and a guitar and a clutch of songs, and that’s very much the feel on the subtly moving ‘Memories,‘ as Steve Grozier makes a pledge to the future “I will hold you when I’m old my love / I’ll keep your memories safe.”
‘Memories‘ is the lead single – out on March 5th – from Steve Grozier’s new album ‘All That’s Been Lost‘ – a somewhat prophetic title since it was chosen before the pandemic hit but represents part of the effects of this strangest of times. Recording was put back and when the band could partially get together the studio was so small that the musicians had to record their parts separately – or remotely. Says Steve of the album “There’s some darkness and pain in there and I think that comes with ageing. The older you get the better acquainted with loss you become, I think. There’s some hope in there too though. The idea that it’s worth the struggle, it’s worth trying, that there’s a light on somewhere.”
