The video for ‘Bowling Green Massacre’ was filmed at the Nashville barn that Josh Okeefe called home when he first moved to America. He has certainly come a long way from his roots in Derby, UK. Along the way, he’s shared a stage with the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Rufus Wainwright, Alison Krauss and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot and appeared at various festivals and protest events, quickly building a reputation as a masterful storyteller with a distinctive voice and an authentic folk-troubadour sound.
Here, he lends his storytelling style to the fictitious Bowling Green Massacre, referred to in interviews by Kellyanne Conway when she worked for President Trump. Later, she claimed to have, “…misspoke,” in another example of her tenuous grasp of truth. Conway had previously used the term ‘alternative facts’ to describe the lies peddled in the media. It is right and fitting that an artist like Okeefe has recorded such behaviour forever in folk song. And a lovely song it is, too.
