If you’re looking for a fresh, new sound as we look forward to summer, check out ‘Hang it Up’, the latest single from The Mukherjee Development. The Copenhagen-based band bring a range of musical influences into their self-styled ‘Nordic Sunshine Music’, which is a perfect accompaniment to better weather. Of course, Denmark isn’t known for the hot sun but Oscar Mukherjee’s upbringing in Silicon Valley introduced him to the folk-rock of Northern California. Mix this in with flavours from his mixed Danish-Indian parentage and the result has been winning over critics. His first two EPs earned Mukherjee a nomination at The Danish Music Awards and appearances at Folk Alliance International in New Orleans and Americana Fest UK in 2020. More recently, he released a song co-written with Dean Owens.
Mukherjee describes ‘Hang it Up’ as: “…a meditation on the-coming-of-age in the year of a pandemic, in an otherwise multi-cultural era of the 21st-century.” We can expect more warm songs of love and the search for identity in the 21st century when The Mukherjee Development’s debut album appears soon.
