When Keith Hargreaves steps out of his shed of an evening and looks up, what does he see? Stars. There are a lot of stars, the greatest number inhabit the Main Sequence – they are your run of the mill mainstream – something that we here at Americana UK studiously attempt to avoid. But there’s no getting away from it – most of those stars are very similar. They’re your 71% Hydrogen, 27% Helium kind of stars, with just a smattering of heavier elements in the mix. But everyone’s different – everyone’s individual in their way, doesn’t the same go for stars? Well, yes it does – but at the great distances it’s hard to pick out those differences, except for when it comes to picking out how much iron they’re toting. The iron absorption spectrum, you see, is quite distinctive. And when one has had enough of star gazing one can go inside, and close the curtains. Stars…Iron…Curtains – ladies and gentlemen welcome those Bluegrass Stars Flatt & Scruggs with their song ‘Iron Curtain‘.
