Ah Mary. Was it really almost 30 years ago? A career bursting with high points and one that has seen her move further and further away from the increasingly narrow field of vision that is the CMAs.
This classic clip features a very slim and young looking Vince Gill as CMA host and a horribly cheesy ad as inspiration for a song from Mary’s 1992 album ‘Come On Come On‘. It was an album that contained a number of songs such as ‘I Feel Lucky‘ and ‘PassionateKisses‘ that would become firmly established as classics in the Mary Chapin Carpenter songbook. It also featured a collaboration on the title track with her great friend and oft times touring companion Shawn Colvin.
The clip is particularly memorable for featuring four of country music’s greatest female vocalists of that era – Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood, Kathy Mattea and Suzy Boguss. Looking back it seems now a golden period for female country artists.
