Nashville’s legendary WMOT Roots radio station has launched a new biweekly roots show, ‘The Old Fashioned, ‘ with hosts Craig Havighurst and fiddler and songwriter Amy Alvey. This “old-time and bluegrass happy hour” will be live on Saturday at 9 am and Tuesday at 8 pm. This is Saturday 2 pm, and Monday 1 am GMT for those not on Nashville time. GMOT streams live from their website, and shows are also available on “Listen Again” platforms in podcast form.
Craig and Amy will spin old-time bands, traditional bluegrass, regional folk styles, acoustic blues, and gospel, and ‘The Old Fashioned’ will include commentary and context along the way. Most of the music played comes from new releases and recent live performances by current recording and touring artists, with a good selection of re-issues and historic tracks. WMOT’s unique access to the Center for Popular Music at Middle Tennessee State University and its in-house label Spring Fed Records will provide some of the music. Craig and Amy also plan to host live tapings in Nashville with performances by leading traditional artists.
WMOT, 89.5 FM, MTSU’s flagship public radio station founded in 1969, is dedicated to an all Americana music format. WMOT Roots Radio provides the Nashville region with a radio station dedicated to the music most deeply connected to Music City’s legacy: classic country music, bluegrass, singer/songwriter, folk, soul, R&B and old-school rock and roll.
A complete programme is available on the website, and the available “on-demand” streams can be browsed and played here.
