Wesley Stace aka John Wesley Harding teams up with The Jayhawks for new record – Listen

Singer/songwriter Wesley Stace will release “Wesley Stace’s John Wesley Harding” on February 24th via Yep Roc Records. Recorded with The Jayhawks—Gary Louris, Marc Perlman, Tim O’Reagan, and Karen Grotberg—at Flowers Studio in Minneapolis, the album was co-produced by Stace and Gary Louris and features 12 tracks chosen by Stace: “I always have a lot of songs, so I listened to every unused song I had, many of them quite recent, and picked 11 that I thought The Jayhawks (or The Wezhawks, as we started to call it) would sound great on. Alison Krauss announces first new solo record in 17 years – Listen to first single

Alison Krauss will release her first solo album in 17 years this year (imagine what you were doing back in 2000 – taking it easy after the millennium bug’s non appearance probably). “Windy City” is out through Decca in the UK in March, and out of the blue today she’s also releasing the first single from the record: Losing You. The new album will feature ten songs selected with producer Buddy Cannon (Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and Merle Haggard’s final solo album) – panning different eras and musical genres original/previously recorded by artists including Willie Nelson,The Osborne Brothers, Glen Campbell, Brenda Lee, Ray Charles and more.     Continue reading “Alison Krauss announces first new solo record in 17 years – Listen to first single”

Bon Iver Cancel European Tour

Bad news for the first Thursday morning of 2017 sorry.  Don’t worry, Trump’s inauguration will be here before long to brighten things up.  Pitchfork report: “Bon Iver have canceled their upcoming European tour behind 22, A Million. Justin Vernon’s planned January 14 appearance on the Minnesota Public Radio program “A Prairie Home Companion” has also been canceled. In a note on the band’s Twitter, they write they have canceled “for personal reasons.” Bon Iver will refund all tickets, and have no plans to reschedule tour dates. Read the full note below. Americana UK’s Readers Poll 2016 – the results!

So the votes are in and it’s all change this year as a new roster of artists take over the pole positions in our survey of what’s rocked your boat over the last 12 months – the site has always been proud to support independent music and it’s great to see so many artists who aren’t household names, some of whom have been around for some time, take the honours. Thank you for all your kind comments regarding the site and particularly those about the monthly CD which some of you are generous enough to still donate for.  We’re taking our annual break for the holidays and will return the first week of January.  In the meantime, a very happy Christmas to all our readers and wishing you all the best for 2017.  And now, here’s those results. Although you, AUK reader, probably have, or some of them at least. And if you’re thinking “why don’t I just head over to RS Country for all my americana news?” then pause. We’re saving you from some country you absolutely don’t need/want/have to be exposed to, like a Brita filter but for music. RS publishes its top country/americana albums of 2016

The Sadies debut track from new album – Listen

And it’s absolutely cracking. The Sadies have premiered “It’s Easy (Like Walking)” featuring Kurt Vile from their new album with Consequence of Sound. The track is the second single to be released from Northern Passages, their 10th studio album, out February 10, 2017, on Yep Roc Records. Of the track The Sadies’ Dallas Good says, “Kurt did a tour supporting The Sadies about a thousand years ago. We didn’t really know each other before that but we’ve been friends ever since. We always talked about collaborating one day so I forced his hand by sending him this finished song with a very short deadline attached. Old Sea Brigade announces UK dates, Christmas song

Ben Cramer aka Old Sea Brigade will be touring Europe for the first time ever in February. He will be supporting Portland, Oregon based folk group Joseph on 13 dates across Europe, including 6 UK shows (Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester, Brighton, London, and Bristol). The Atlanta-born, Nashville-based singer/songwriter released his debut, self-titled EP earlier this year, featuring the standout track “Love Brought Weight,” which has passed over one million streams currently on Spotify alone. Amanda Rheaume announces Jan/Feb UK tour

amanda-rheaumeCanadian singer-songwriter Amanda Rheaume has announced January-February UK tour in support of her new album Holding Patterns, produced by Ottawa singer-songwriter Jim Bryson, which features tracks such as  ‘The Day the Mountain Fell’, a true story Amanda’s grandfather told her about a second cousin in the 1950s who became known in media reports as a “miracle child”.
