Blue Cactus “This Kind Of Rain” – insert twelth night quote…

Just to be clear, this is not an unprovoked attempt to stake a claim for the Americana UK territory that we call The Video Section – no way man.  In fact it is nothing less than a carefully agreed… umm… agreement whereby the party of the first part (that’s the Tracks Editor) can on this occasion (and possibly others) post within the sacred territory of the party of the second part (that’s the Videos Editor).  Oh, and he owes the Track Editor half his mineral rights.

Blue Cactus – are the best kind of duo, in that Steph Stewart and Mario Arnez are a Cosmic Americana Duo.  The North Carolina Cosmic Americana duo have their third album – ‘Believer‘ – ready to roll on April 25th.  It’s a departure from their previous releases in that Steph Stewart takes all the lead vocals which allows for the showcasing of (and we can’t thank the press release too much for this) “her gossamer warble.” Not a phrase we’d have grabbed for straight off, so thankee.

This Kind of Rain‘ deals with anxieties and dread, and the fortitude to come to terms with both of these.  It was recorded in Pittsboro, North Carolina, with Mario Arnez and Kate Rhudy on dream-filled harmony vocals, the track features Whit Wright on pedal steel and Blue Cactus’ hometown rhythm section of Gabe Anderson (drums, percussion) and Casey Toll (bass).

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
