Don't shout at me for using Spotify but how did people get on this year? My top genre was gothic country, most listened to band was Icarus Phoenix and I have the listening age of a 21 year old apparently although someone in work suggested unkindly that was because my son has wrecked my algorithms (partly true)
As someone who is wedded to a different streaming platform (Qobuz), I'm an infrequent user of Spotify, turning to Spotify if I can't find something on Qobuz, or if, say, I follow a link to a song which leads me to that particular platform. My Spotify Wrapped went as follows...
Top artists: The Delines, Elles Bailey, Shelby Lynne, The Broadway Cast of "Stereophonic" and someone I didn't recognise (Sarah Pidgeon), who turns out to be a "Stereophonic" cast member (she played the Stevie Nicks-like character).
Top genres: Americana, delta blues, musicals, rock, folk.
Listening age: 23
Most listened to song: 'When I Go Away (MWS Sessions)' a Levon Helm cover, by Elles Bailey. Apparently I listened to this song three times.
I listened to a total of 42 songs during the year.
We’re not talking about my listening age Mark it’s a sore subject 😂
🤣
I stream using various platforms but have absolutely no interest in the stats they generate. I also don’t base what I’m going to listen on algorithms. As the year goes along I keep a list of albums that are coming out that I’m potentially going to be interested in. I add new discoveries to that list as I find them. From there, I whittle it down to my favorites.
Bedroom rising from an old growth tree
Bringing out the sawmill, cutting the 12 inch beams
Building a pattern, the reservoir to fill with dreams
Rings like Saturn telling their old story…
Big Thief “Red Moon”
