Exclusive AUK ‘Mega-Concert’ Premiere: VanWyck

Throughout this challenging year, Americana-UK has posted occasional ‘mini-gigs’ to connect artists with their audiences.  At a time when attending live music events was out of the question for many, these little shows, from artists’ living rooms to yours, was a way of spreading the joy music can bring.  Now, for the first time, we bring you a full 40-minute concert film from Dutch singer-songwriter VanWyck.

This show was recorded at one of Amsterdam’s finest theatres, De Kleine Komedie, just before the second lockdown began.  VanWyck is known for reflective, intimate lyrics and her clear, warm voice and this 40-minute concert film is a brilliant example of quality musicianship.  Her third solo album, ‘God is in the Detour’, has just been released to critical acclaim.  Our own Richard Phillips said that: “VanWyck has created a thoughtful, warm soundscape for us to inhabit for a while. These songs scrape below the surface of the day to day, urging us to think of what might be possible; what might happen if we made that detour.”

VanWyck’s personal, acoustic songs have drawn comparisons with the likes of Leonard Cohen.  This is music full of lyrical depth; it is well-crafted modern folk with an absorbing melancholic undercurrent in which to drift away.  Here, you get to experience it as it should be seen and heard: in a great music venue.  Your weekend starts here.  Enjoy.
