Exclusive AUK Mini-Gig: Carrie Elkin

During these strange times, AUK has been spreading a little joy by posting regular mini-gigs.  Here, you can get your fix of live music from some incredible artists.  Our latest show comes exclusively from Austin singer-songwriter, Carrie Elkin, whose gorgeous songs cross folk and Americana.  Elkin is known for possessing a voice that is at once both delicate and powerful.  She conveys emotion so effectively through her pure vocal and is so absorbed in the joy of performing, it is an electric experience to see her live.

Elkin has performed as a vocalist in the Sam Baker Trio, featured on the popular Welcome to Night Vale podcast and recorded a duo album, ‘For Keeps’, with her husband, Danny Schmidt.  When the two harmonise together, or sing one another’s songs, there’s an engaging musical and emotional warmth to their performances.  As a solo artist, Elkin has released seven albums, including the critically-acclaimed ‘Call it My Garden’ and the deeply personal ‘The Penny Collector’.

For this superb mini-gig, Carrie Elkin, accompanied by Danny Schmidt, plays two new songs and the wonderful ‘Company of Friends’.  Written by Schmidt, Elkin truly made this song her own with her version first appearing on ‘For Keeps’ in 2014.   Enjoy this great show and find out more about Carrie Elkin’s music here.
