Ghost Party “Cardboard Moon” – thinking about a friend

Ghost Party recorded ‘Cardboard Moon’ as part of the sessions for their album, and it is a gorgeous nightful of Cosmic American Moonlight and Music, swaying like a tree in a soft wind.  It features Will Van Horn on pedal steel, drums played by Victor Sanchez, whilst bass, piano, rhodes, and celeste are played by Kendrick Ballard.  McCullough Ferguson sings vocals, plays guitar, and plays the mellotron.

As Ghost Party explain, the song uses a phrase coined by a departed friend of the band:  “When everything else stinks in life..at least there’s this cardboard moon” she’d say, with a knowing grin and conviction in her eyes. Sounds simple..plain even, but it got us through several dark and sweaty central Texas nights and now miss her dearly.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
