Time for change.
Back at the end of June, I wrote the most recent article in this series, featuring the late, great, Cynthia Weil, and said that I would be taking a break over the summer and would return in the autumn with a new set of articles on Americana songwriters. That was very much the intention at the time, but things changed over the summer months and I made the decision that, at the end of the year, I would take an extended break from writing for Americana UK. There seemed little point in starting to write these articles again if I was going to leave just a couple of months later, so the series didn’t resume, and we set it aside while we discussed what to do with it.
The good news is that ‘I Write the Songs’ will return in the new year, under the excellent stewardship of David Jarman. David is a long-term writer here at AUK, whose reviews of albums always take a keen analytical look at the songwriting. David is an established songwriter in his own right and already has ideas on a themed approach to the subject and on shining lights on aspects of the craft that would never have occurred to me. I, for one, am really excited about reading David’s articles. Something to look forward to in the new year.
