Grammy-nominated American songwriter Amythyst Kiah makes a long overdue return to the UK and Ireland for her first shows here since the release of her acclaimed “Still + Bright” album. AUK’s Fred Arnold, awarding the album a deserved 9/10 in 2024, wrote: “Amythyst Kiah digs very deep, expanding her musical space, opening up her songwriting process, displaying a greater vocal range and delivering a very personal message – it’s a remarkable and powerful album”.
A commanding live performer blessed with an unforgettable voice, Kiah combines the political and the deeply personal in her music, embracing, spirituality, grief, joy, healing and love in all its incarnations. On “Still + Bright”, she explores her inner world: her deep-rooted affinity for Eastern philosophies, a connection with the natural environment, the life lessons learned in her formative years as an “anime-nerd mall goth” and much more.
Produced by Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Green Day, Weezer), the record merges her revelatory storytelling with a twist on the rootsy alt-rock of her 2021 breakthrough “Wary + Strange”. As a taster you can see the video for ‘Empire Of Love’ at the foot of this piece.
The short tour sees her visit Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England with headline solo concerts in Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Caernarfon, Bristol and London. She’ll also perform in two sell-outs at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall as part of the Roaming Roots Revue for Celtic Connections festival alongside Guy Garvey, Dylan LeBlanc, Rianne Downey and others on Sun 25 and Mon 26 Jan.
