Portland Oregon based Jerry Joseph has announced a European tour beginning the week after next which includes 12 UK dates, with support from the excellent Our Man in the Field. Jason Isbell called Joseph one of the greatest triple threats – a great singer, songwriter and performer – and Richmond Fontaine liked him so much they took him on support for their UK farewell tour in 2016. Joseph will be supporting The Delines and Drive-By Truckers on their 2022 European tours but before then you have a chance to see him on his first full European tour over the next couple of months.
Jerry Joseph’s recent album ‘The Beautiful Madness’, produced by Patterson Hood (who also wrote the liner notes), is Jerry’s first proper European release, and described as “an unapologetic manifesto on what in the hell is going on with the world written with concern only for shining a light on the truth.” We raved about it on its release, describing it as “not just a very good album; it is an exceptional one”. The album was recorded with backing from the Drive-By Truckers, the first time they recorded with Jason Isbell since he left the band in 2007, as Isbell plays slide guitar on the ballad ‘Dead Confederate’, which Hood says is “one of the best songs about prejudice and racial hatred that I have ever heard.”
Jerry will be joined by UK act Our Man In the Field (LP on Rootsy Music) aka Alex Ellis who takes inspiration from (the nice bits of) Van Morrison, Neil Young, CCR, and Wilco. His own sound is described as “indefinable yet familiar- its introspective, intimate and deeply soulful style stands comfortably alongside modern-day artists Ray LaMontagne, Damien Rice, Foy Vance and Joe Purdy.”
