Jesse Malin “Hollywood Forever” – tribute to a friend

After all the hard times Jesse Malin has been through in recent years it’s more than good to hear new sounds from the man who embodies the spirit of punkish-rock and roll.  The new songs are Hollywood Forever and a cover of the Clash’s Rudy Can’t Fail that make up the two sides of a new single.

Jesse Malin says of the A-side that “Hollywood Forever is a tribute to my dear friend, Howie Pyro, who passed away in 2022. His wish was to be buried in the legendary Hollywood Forever Cemetery. I’ve been thinking about him a lot lately and it means a lot to me to be able to tell you about him every night in my play ‘Silver Manhattan’ – its our story and it’s our song. Thank you to Tad Kubler from The Hold Steady and Jimmy G from Murphy’s Law for joining me, Derek, Rob, Paul and James on this one.”

Malin’s story has also expanded into new creative formats. His autobiographical concert-theatre production Silver Manhattan—developed and staged in New York—offers an intimate reflection on his journey from Queens punk beginnings to his present-day recovery. In 2026, he further shares his story with the release of his memoir, Almost Grown: A New York Memoir, a candid and deeply personal account of his life in music.  no doubt we’ll be reviewing that soon.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
