Jim Basnight “Gotta Get Straight” – power pop kiss-off

A new song from prolific power popster Jim Basnight, it’s a hook heavy washing of the hands kind of song – it’s a first taste of the next album, as yet untitled, which should be out in the spring.  ‘Gotta Get Straight‘,  as well as the rest of the album, features Beth Peabody on vocal harmonies on all tracks and her husband Sean Peabody played all the drums and also sang backing vocals.

As well as playing music Jim Basnight has been working for some years on a biography of Sonny Boy Williamson, which is currently in the publishing process.  In support of this he gave a talk on the subject at the Emmitt Till Museum in Glendora, Mississippi,  which he is assisting in expanding their coverage of Sonny Boy Williamson whose influence became particularly wide spread when he relocated to the UK near the end of his life just in time to influence The Animals, Jimmy Page, The Rolling Stones, and…a long list of others.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
