Karla Kane “The Winter Of Life” – Listen

Karla Kane plays many roles, including lead singer and ukulelist with The Corner Laughers – who have a new album ‘Temescal Telegraph‘ out – but she is also a solo recording artist.  The Californian has, like the rest of us, had the unplanned 2020 that we’ve had to learn to accept if not quite love but in Karla Kane’s case there have been some positives.

One such was finally attending an event at the EFDSS (which, if it weren’t so obviously an oxymoron we’d describe as very “rock and roll“) – to wit a singing group with Hazel Askew.  Virtually, of course, with a strange time-shift to contend with.  And this led onto the recording of a new solo single – a Solsticey coupling of ‘The Halsway Carol‘ with on the virtual flip-side a Hazel Askew/Traditional number ‘The Winter of Life.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
