LeBarons “Running River” – when will the good time arrive?

We’ve been with Lebarons since the 2018 singles leading up to their first album, their last release was Days Are Mountains some three years back, and this is their latest single.  Should we guess at a new album soon?  Hopefully – as this alt-country band from Toronto/Hamilton have a habit of coming up with memorable songs.  Running River is no exception with a couple of hooks competing to be the most earwormy, and a moody vocal, slowly coming up for air through layers of troubles and setbacks constantly flowing…like a river.  It’s got a Springsteenesque feel to it – the feel of consant efforts to achieve a goal that remains just finger-tip thickness out of reach: “Now I know, there’s something waiting / Its waiting for me out there / Standing on the corner rattlin’ the cage just trying / To keep your shit together.

Running River was written by  Chris MacDonald, who also sings and plays acoustic guitar on the song, the rest of LeBarons are Meg Tilston, vocals; John Dinsmore, bass guitar, vocals; Evan Levy, electric guitar; Casey Irvin, lap-steel; and Po Karim, drums + percussion.   The track was produced by John Dinsmore.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
