Nico Padden “The Last Time” – landlubbers beware

Nico Padden is, one could say, “Bold in Her Breeches“, drawing inspiration from the likes of Grace O’Malley, Mary Read, and Anne Bonny.  It’s an approach to life and music that has earnt her the nickname The Pirate Queen, which has now been co-opted as the title of her latest album which is due out on January 28th.

The second single from it, ‘The Last Time‘, is a strident statement of intent which could be summed up as “don’t need you, you’re history” a sentiment which is linked to a suitably powerful accompaniment as Nico Padden belts out her uncompromising decision.  It has classic rock hints, and a good touch of soulful blues power to it as well.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
