Nicolai Dunger has hardly been letting the grass grow under his feet – with a good thirty albums to his name the Swedish “folk-rocker” (it’s in quotes, folks, ‘cos he’s that and so much more) is preparing to release another, “Rooto The Fruit” which adds in a taste of Brazilian rhythms as another musical variation on his many themes. The album was inspired by Brazilian legend Milton Nascimento, and was recorded over a three day session. It was produced by Joel Igor Hammad Magnusson and recorded by Tobias Fröberg in his studio in Visby (Gotland), and with the addition of Percussionist Finn Björnulfsson the Brazilian flavour was fully present whilst Joel Igor’s additions of field recordings from Jakarta Indonesien, La Paz Bolivia and Lima Peru were the final ingredients in the mix. It makes, on ‘Love Is A Song‘, for a somewhat disconcerting soundscape, as a lone guitar player questions his love “What have you been doing ? What kind of games do you play on the ‘phone?” whilst children shout in the streets and the doubts rise higher.
Should we get sufficient quality contributions we’re not exactly adverse to implementing samba Friday as a regular Track feature (hey, don’t doubt us, you know we’ll do it if we can!).
