Robert Plant and Alison Krauss “High And Lonesome” – Listen

You know the back story to this one – Plant and Krauss recorded one of the best selling Americana albums ‘Raising Sand‘ and at long last they’ve recorded another album destined to be one of the best selling Americana albums.  It’s called ‘Raise the Roof‘ and it is out on November 19th.

‘High and Lonesome’ is a co-write by Robert Plant T Bone Burnett and it is the album’s only original song.  The other tracks are made up of songs from Merle Haggard, Allen Toussaint, The Everly Brothers, Anne Briggs, Bert Jansch, amongst others.  This really is turning into the year of Anne Briggs – just like every year should be.

Alison Krauss has spoken about how the album came together: “when we started, Robert had said that if it didn’t work, we’ll try it for three days and say goodbye.”  Obviously it worked out!

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
