Roxanne de Bastion “I Should Live In Salt” – Listen

Roxanne de Bastion, 2017

This cover of The National by Roxanne de Bastion emerged from her virtual tour this year.  As she says “I loved playing a different cover song each night of my virtual UK tour and wanted to record one of my favourites to share with everyone who’s supported me. To me, the song is about the difficulties of sharing a small living space, so it seemed quite apt to record it now during lockdown.”
And why this song?  Well, she adds “What I love about The National, apart from their lyrical world, is how they experiment with timing – leaving off or adding beats to suit the lyrical sentiment. It’s something I do a lot in my own songwriting, so it felt an obvious fit for me. I was actually also supposed to see them perform in June – as that show couldn’t happen, this is my little tribute”.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
