Light, reflective songs about the teachings of time.

Starting at an early age, she first learned how to play the drums, a skill she soon put into practice playing at sessions at local dive bars. Years later, she moved to Seattle, where she became the drummer for the slowcore outfit Carissa’s Wierd, and later, Band of Horses. 2006 marked the year of her solo debut, which would be followed by a string of records leading up to her latest release, I’ve Missed You All These Years, an album that was eight years in the making.

For I’ve Missed You All These Years, Cahoone returns to Sub Pop Records, the label that first signed her at the start of her solo career, marking a confident return to her musical origins. In the same way, many of the songs carry a sense of perspective, reflecting on events from the past and the impact these have had. In the time since her last release, Cahoone experienced the loss of several loved ones, including her father, as she directly addresses in the delicately fingerpicked track Supposed To Be. In her own words: “Writing songs helps me get through difficult periods. These people live in you. They come out in your lyrics, and they’re with you all the time.”

The album presents a clean, polished sound in which the variety of instruments are given space alongside Cahoone’s central guitar and vocals. On first listen, I’ve Missed You All These Years might not immediately elicit strong impressions as, stylistically, though somewhat varied, the songs never stray from familiar sounds. However, there is much to discover in the lyrics and arrangements to warrant another listen, in which you are sure to find a depth and richness that make Cahoone an artist to keep an eye out for.
