Sloan Brothers “Cleopatra Echo” – are friends eclectic?

Photo: Sean Dunn

Sloan Simpson shifted from playing guitar to recording music after a car accident affected hisplaying to the extent that he sold his instruments and amps.  Fast forward two decades and the music recorder from Athens Georgia found himself as the only person around to record.  With keyboards, bass, guitar and drum machine he began laying down tracks.  And then some favours were called in, leading to current and former members of bands such as of Montreal, Drive-By Truckers, and Camper Van Beethoven amongst many others helping out on what would become the Sloan Brothers’ debut release ‘System Update‘ (out May 13th).

Cleopatra Echo‘ is a superb instrumental from the album, just a touch psychedelic in feel with soaring layers and some great chunky guitar on the main solo.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
