Something for the weekend: The Guthries “Season to Leave”

YouTube screen grab

That’s it from us for another week dear reader – don’t forget to check out Mike Ritchie’s 400th show on Sunday, details here – but in the meantime we leave you with a classic track from the first act I ever interviewed 22 years ago when Americana UK was born, The Guthries (who incidentally were very kind to me and became longtime friends of AUK). The Canadian band which included Ruth and Gabe Minnkin among other members (who have gone on to release sterling material in their own rights in recent years) over the course of just two albums created some of the most beautiful americana ever written. “Off Windmill” was released in 2000 and contained many gems, among which was the lovely ‘Season to Leave’ which also featured on Uncut’s More Sounds Of The New West free CD which was released the same year. Simpler times! Have a good one.
