Sounds from beyond the Shed 179 “Travel”

Delines / Willy Vlautin

Despite my leaving education, life still seems to revolve around term-time rhythms. Owning a small camper van means that Mrs. H and I can jump anytime we want and just eff off over the horizon… or so I thought when cashing in my mortar board etc. It’s not that simple. The moment that you are ‘free’ from the shackles others embrace you with theirs. Using such phrases as; ‘How brilliant, that you’ve got more time to spend with the grandchildren’ or even worse “I can’t get that printer thing working again, are you coming round… again today”

These are first-world problems, and to be fair, it is a blessing seeing more of the kids and being there for parents. Still, the call of the van is strong and next week we will be basking in the rarified sunlight of Holland and cycling through tulip-smothered groves whilst gnawing on bits of Edam cheese. This has taken planning and the banking of certain credits that will no doubt be redeemed and, of course, it takes place in the school holidays (gnashing of teeth) so it’s not so cheap either. Still, this is the trip we cancelled five years ago because of some virus, what could possibly go wrong this time? I’ll let you know in two weeks.

This week’s show has been a blast featuring as it does new stuff from several acts and I’ve also been listening to some classic Delines and Peter Bruntnell following their brilliant run of gigs over the last couple of weeks. As ever……
