These last three weeks are the first time in my entire life that I have taken a holiday in ‘term time’, ie when kids are at school and not tearing it up either on the ferry or campsites. Extraordinary. The peace. I’m not saying that that is how life should be because it shouldn’t, well, not all the time, but I was astonished at what a different vibe it is when no kids are flying about. To be fair by the end of the three weeks I kind of missed the energy and as I glanced across at the couple in the van opposite I got an alarming whiff of “God’s Waiting Room” which I dispelled by playing some loud Lenderman whilst cooking and eliciting the required scowls to make me feel young and rebellious once more.
I did, however, have a problem that I hadn’t come across before. Day 4, I ran out of mobile data despite having a 56-day roaming pass as part of my mobile contract. WTF. Couldn’t work it out at all. Until I realised that drinking a lot of wine and then watching stuff on the van’s TV, via an Amazon Firestick, might have something to do with it. Doh. An expensive lesson learned, as I then had to buy several days’ worth of extras at a fiver a pop. It was a painful, expensive lesson learned; still, at least I wasn’t watching Clarkson’s Farm…
So, my music listening abroad was somewhat curtailed, but I did chance upon the new Cory Hanson ode to Lou Reed, and there’s always time for Old Gringo (looking forward to Hyde Park). Plus, you get the chance to enjoy all the radio shows you missed. It’s a listening bonanza!! As ever …
