Sounds from beyond the Shed 241 “The Rugby”

Not the usual subject of this column, but as a fellow of Northampton, I’m heading to Twickenham tomorrow, driving a coach-load of supporters for the Prem Final. Exciting times for the town as the club seems to be riding a wave of excellence that has even brought excitement to my sports-averse household. I won’t pay for Sky or that nonsense, but a shout must go out to Graham MacKechnie of Northants BBC Radio for guiding my match-following in fine style. I won’t go into the stadium, but I will be listening and very much looking forward to it.

I’m also looking forward to the fans enjoying my match day playlist, which they will enjoy during the two-hour journey. It’s a carefully curated list with nothing too melancholy or niche and guaranteed to bring a smile to the driver’s face. By the time you read this, the result will be known, but I’m sure it’ll be a brilliant day whatever… but of course Saints will win!

Two of the key tracks are Nathaniel Rateliff and Old Crow Medicine Show, and the radio show featured The Jayhawks as the classic album amongst several other lovely tracks from the likes of MGTR, Josiah and the Bonnevilles, Alela Diane and Haylie Davis
