Stream Rodney Crowell’s new album featuring Steve Earle

Rodney Crowell’s new album ‘Texas’ is a 11-track release out in the UK today on Crowell’s RC1 Records imprint, which finds the legendary singer-songwriter enlisting the help of several fellow Texans, including Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Ronnie Dunn, Randy Rogers, Lee Ann Womack and Steve Earle, Ringo Starr and Vince Gill.

“It’s interesting to me — and I consider this a success — that so many high-profile performers contribute to the end result without derailing the narrative” Crowell told RS. “Of course, we did the work of recording Texas and I did the work of writing the songs, but from the start there was a kind of mystical evidence that if I’d just stay out of the way, this album would more or less make itself.”

As Billboard notes: “All of the tracks on Texas were written or co-written by Crowell. Several songs on the project were penned in the ‘70s, including an early favorite of Earle’s called “Brown & Root, Brown & Root” that he began covering in his sets in the 1980s. The last song Crowell wrote with Clark ahead of his death in 2016 was the blues-fueled “Caw Caw Blues,” now featuring Gill, while another of their co-writes on the project include the jazz-infused “I’ll Show Me.””
