The Churchmen “Heaven On My Mind” – gospel Bluegrass goodness

The Churchmen are a Bluegrass Gospel group based in Collinsville, Virginia. They formed in 1989 when they began singing in local churches blending a Southern Gospel style four part harmony with the sound of bluegrass instrumentation.  And it sure sounds sweet, as on this new single which was released a couple of weeks ago.

Keith Clark, bassist and tenor in the band, says that “’Heaven On My Mind is a great song written by our banjo player, Carroll Arnn. It is a simple and upbeat message saying no matter how much or how little material gain we have in life, heaven is the most important thing and the ultimate goal for every Christian believer.”

Whether or not you share in the message of the song is really immaterial – ‘Heaven on my Mind‘ is just a really fine example of an infectious bluegrass song, and sits well alongside the likes of ‘Keep on the Sunnyside‘.  Enjoy!

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
