On ‘Outrun‘ The SteelDrivers create a modern take on the murder ballad, with the outlaw escape moving from a fast horse to a fast car. No matter the steed though you can’t outrun yourself. The song is the title track to the new album from the band, which has a May 23rd release on the legendary Sun Records, and was written by Tammy Rogers (fiddle) and Matt Dame (guitar) along with longtime SteelDriver co-writer Leslie Satcher.
For such a high profile song it’s surprising to hear that it came together at the last minute as Tammy Rogers explains: “I happened to run into [Satcher] the weekend before we were scheduled to go into the studio and told her we didn’t have any ‘Leslie songs’ on the upcoming record. She made the time to get together and ‘Outrun’ was written in about an hour and a half!”
